1. Overview

Ember Lore Studios, LLC ("we", "us", or "our") respects your privacy. VesperZero is engineered from the ground up as a quiet, distraction-free, privacy-first home screen launcher for Android.

2. Minimal Personal Data Collection

VesperZero is engineered to protect your personal identity. We do NOT collect, store, transmit, or share any personally identifiable information (PII) such as your name, email address, exact geographic location, personal contacts, or search queries.

3. On-Device Data Storage & Processing

All core launcher functionality, preferences, and indexing occur 100% locally on your device:

  • Installed Applications Index: VesperZero queries the inventory of installed applications on your device strictly to render your app drawer, enable instant search, and allow you to pin favorite applications. This index is processed entirely within local device memory and is never transmitted off-device.
  • App Preferences: Customizations such as your selected color theme, wallpaper style, clock/date display, background dimming, handedness layout mode, and pinned favorites are saved locally on your device using encrypted Android DataStore and SharedPreferences.
  • Search Queries: All searches performed within VesperZero are processed locally on your device in real time. Search inputs are never logged, cached remotely, or sent across any network.

4. Android Device Permissions

VesperZero requests only the essential Android permissions required to fulfill its responsibilities as an alternative home screen launcher:

  • QUERY_ALL_PACKAGES (Android 11+): Required by Google Play policy guidelines to discover and display installed applications on your device for user-initiated launching and search.
  • Default Launcher Settings: Requested to permit setting VesperZero as your active home screen environment.
  • Battery Status Access: Reads system battery status locally via standard Android OS APIs to optionally display remaining charge within your header line.
  • Network / Internet Access: Requested strictly to transmit anonymized diagnostic crash reports and usage statistics to our analytics provider (see Section 6).

5. In-App Purchases & Billing

VesperZero may provide optional in-app purchases (such as custom themes or supporter tiers). All monetary transactions are processed directly and securely via the Google Play Billing Library.

  • Ember Lore Studios, LLC does not collect, process, or store credit card numbers, billing addresses, or financial payment credentials.
  • All financial transactions are governed under Google Play's Terms of Service and Privacy Policy.

6. Analytics and Crash Reporting

To identify bugs, analyze feature usage, and improve VesperZero's stability, we utilize Google Firebase Analytics and Firebase Crashlytics.

  • Data Collected: Firebase automatically collects anonymized, non-personally identifiable information. This includes your device model, operating system version, app usage statistics (e.g., frequency of accessing specific menus), crash logs, and your device's Android Advertising ID or Firebase Installation ID.
  • Purpose of Use: This data is strictly used for internal diagnostics and feature improvement. We do not use this data to serve advertisements, and we never sell it to third-party data brokers.
  • Opting Out: You can opt out of analytics tracking at any time by navigating to VesperZero's in-app Settings > Advanced and disabling "Share usage and crash reports," or by opting out of personalized advertising in your Android system settings.
  • Third-Party Terms: All telemetry data is processed securely in accordance with the Google Privacy Policy.

7. Account Creation & Data Deletion

VesperZero does not require account creation, registration, or cloud sign-in.

  • Local Data: Uninstalling VesperZero instantly and permanently purges all locally stored preferences, caches, and custom layout settings from your physical device.
  • Analytics Data: Anonymized usage and crash data sent to Firebase is retained on Google's servers in accordance with their standard retention policies (typically 2 to 14 months) before being automatically and permanently deleted.

8. Data Security

Because all personal layout data remains on your physical hardware, your preferences are secured by Android's application sandbox architecture. We enforce modern encryption standards whenever inter-process communication occurs within the operating system.

9. Children's Privacy

VesperZero does not target, collect, or solicit personal information from children under the age of 13. The application complies with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), and Google Play Families policy requirements.
